Kingdom Come – Timeless Truths from Ancient Influencers

“On earth as it is in heaven.” — Matthew 6:10

The story of Israel’s kings is a story of promise, power, pressure—and often, failure.

From Saul’s insecurity to David’s repentance, from Solomon’s wisdom to Hezekiah’s crisis faith, to Josiah’s reforming zeal, the monarchy of Israel reveals what happens when human leadership collides with divine expectation. Each king reflects something about the Kingdom of God—but none fully embodies it.

Kingdom Come: Lessons from the Monarchs is a five-week journey through the successes and failures of Israel’s rulers, exploring what their stories teach us about leadership, obedience, worship, repentance, and renewal. More importantly, each message points beyond flawed earthly kings to Jesus—the true and better King who perfectly fulfills what they lacked.

This series invites us to examine not only ancient rulers—but our own hearts. Because the question is not just who sat on Israel’s throne, but who sits on ours.

Series Overview

Week 1 — Saul: When Insecurity Leads (1 Samuel 9–15)

Saul’s fear of man and obsession with image led to disobedience and rejection. God’s kingdom is not built on status or strength—but on humble trust and obedience.

Jesus is the confident Son who obeyed the Father completely, never swayed by public opinion.

Week 2 — David: A Man After God’s Heart (1 Samuel 16; 2 Samuel 7; Psalm 51)

David’s greatness was not perfection but repentance. God desires surrendered hearts more than outward performance.

Jesus, the Son of David, shared the Father’s heart perfectly and bore our sin in humility.

Week 3 — Solomon: Wisdom and the Fall (1 Kings 3–11)

Solomon asked for wisdom but drifted into pride and idolatry. Wisdom without obedience leads to ruin.

Jesus is greater than Solomon—the faithful embodiment of God’s wisdom.

Week 4 — Hezekiah: Faith in Crisis (2 Kings 18–20)

Hezekiah’s trust in prayer during national crisis reminds us that true kingdom faith is tested under pressure.

Jesus faced the ultimate crisis at the cross and trusted the Father completely.

Week 5 — Josiah: Reformation Revival (2 Kings 22–23)

Josiah led renewal by rediscovering God’s Word and tearing down idols. Revival begins with returning to Scripture.

Jesus brought not just reformation, but transformation—ushering in the new covenant.

The Thread Running Through It All

Every king reveals something about the kingdom—and something about its limits under human leadership.

Some led with insecurity.

Some repented deeply.

Some drifted slowly.

Some stood firm in crisis.

Some sparked revival.

But none were the final King.

This series ultimately points us to Jesus—the King who perfectly obeyed, perfectly loved, perfectly trusted, and perfectly fulfilled the will of the Father. Where earthly kings faltered, He stands unshaken.

As we pray, “Your kingdom come,” we are not merely longing for a future reality. We are inviting Christ to reign in our hearts now.
